Contributions to the Reading Project are welcome from anyone. We try to encourage other people’s engagement with books for the personal enjoyment they give and for their continuing cultural importance.
If you think you might contribute reviews to this website, please read the following which will outline the steps and conditions to do this.
Reading Project is a non-profit website. Our website takes no paid advertisements and makes no money. No one receives payment to run it. This means no money can be paid for reviews.
Reading Project is privately run for the purposes of encouraging reading and sharing our love of reading with others. However, if you have a website, we are happy for you to advertise your website in your biography on the About page, if you choose to have one, and we can provide links to your website in your reviews.
Apart from that, we like to think of the Reading Project as a labour of love. If you wish to contribute, we encourage you to think of your contribution primarily deriving from a personal interest in reading and desire to share your thoughts about your reading experience with others. Of course, this can be done on commercial platforms like goodreads and Fable, but this is an opportunity to contribute to a personal, not-for-profit website.
If all that is okay with you, then thank you for your contribution!
Contact us via our email or our Guestbook stating your desire to make contributions.
Please note: We do not inlcude the books being read by first-time reviewers on our main page. A reviewer page and other information is only changed on the site after the first review is submitted.
Read your book and write your review
Reviews should be your original work. We have no interest in reproducing work copied from other websites or AI content. For this reason, it is less complicated if the review is written specifically for the Reading Project.
Reviews should be written formally, using proper punctuation and paragraphs. This does not mean you cannot have your own style. You are encouraged to offer opinions in creative ways, with discussion based upon the book you have read and other relevant knowledge you have. We wish to avoid overly colloquial language, text speak and emoticons, which do not serve the audience we imagine.
We wish to avoid overly short reviews that do not explain your point of view or give the reader some genuine insight into the book you have read. Many of the reviews for this website are over one thousand words (a few are 5000+ words), but there are others that are shorter. We recommend 600 to 1000 words as a starting guideline, but we’re happy to go longer if you really have something to say.
Reviews should be sent to our submissions@readingproject.au (which can also to be found under Contacts in our Menu). Alternatively, they can be sent to bikerbuddy@readingproject.au
The Email should include the TITLE and AUTHOR of the book and your REVIEWER NAME in its subject line. Also, include the following information at the beginning of your review so that we can prepare the review for publication:
When you submit your first review (if you haven’t already supplied this information with your initial contact) make sure you include the following:
This information will be used to set up a reviewer page, included in menus and as pop-up information on review pages, as well as the search function for our Reviews List.
The following information will not be used for first-time reviewers prior to us receiving the review. For reviews after that we will put the book you are currently reading onto the front page of the website if you tell us prior to submitting your review.
Reviewspage.)
If the above information is missing it may delay your review being published.
We like to supply extra pictures and informations in reviews on the right sidebar. This is done for most reviews on the website. Any suggestions for sidebar content to accompany your review would be appreciated. If this is not submitted with a review we may add sidebar content that is appropriate.
All reviews will be checked for errors before publication and might be subject to small corrections. (This does not mean it won’t have errors when we publish it. We find errors we have made all the time and are constantly trying to eliminate them!) If the errors are minor this will be done without consultation
Sometimes reviews lack information or have other problems that cannot be corrected in the editing process. If this happens you will be given the opportunity to rewrite and resubmit. In these cases you will be told specifically what problems have been identified and given suggestions about how to address them.
We try to get reviews published within 48 hours of receiving them.
The copyright of submitted reviews remains with their author, as will any original images sent to us that are to be used for the purposes of review. All other images remain the property of their owners.
By submitting reviews and original images to the Reading Project, you are giving us permission to make them available on our website. Unless you request that we remove your review from our site we will continue to host it and other original images submitted with it.
